Director of Sales
Build and lead the sales team that brings Practis to field-services operators, and own the number while you do it.
About Practis
Practis gets field sales teams ready before they meet a paying customer. The people who sell for pest control, lawn care, HVAC, home improvement, and insurance companies are often canvassers, technicians, and comfort specialists, not people with “sales” in their title. Most get a few days of shadowing and a script, then start working leads the company paid for.
Practis changes that order. New hires practice real conversations in private with an AI coach. They certify against the PRACTIS™ Method, our published standard for field sales conversations, and only then take live leads. Operators get evidence on the metrics they already track. We deliver it as a managed service: the customer provides access and context, and we build the content, run the launch, and report the outcome.
The role
Practis is moving from founder-led selling to a sales team, and you will build it: the process, the forecast, the hiring plan, and the first account executives who run it. You will also close deals yourself while the team ramps, because the best playbook for this market is written by someone closing in it.
You will work directly with our CEO on the revenue plan, segment priorities, and how the paid Readiness Diagnostic converts into a program. You will run your own team the way we ask customers to run theirs, with sellers who practice and certify in Practis before they take live deals.
What you will do
- Own the new-business revenue target and the weekly forecast behind it.
- Design the sales process from first touch to signed program, with stage definitions and exit criteria the whole company uses.
- Hire, onboard, and coach account executives, and later sales development reps, starting in Kansas City.
- Carry and close a book of strategic deals while the team ramps.
- Build territory, segment, and compensation plans with the CEO.
- Run pipeline reviews and deal coaching that make the team better, not just busier.
- Partner with marketing on pipeline targets, events, and the industry conferences where operators gather.
- Report revenue, conversion, and cycle time to the leadership team.
Required experience
- 8 or more years in B2B sales, including at least 3 years leading a team of quota-carrying account executives.
- A record of building or rebuilding a sales process and forecast, not only inheriting one.
- Sellers you hired and ramped who went on to hit quota, and a clear view of what you look for in a hire.
- Deals you closed yourself with executive buyers at mid-market or enterprise companies.
- Fluency in HubSpot or a comparable CRM, and in the reporting that keeps a forecast honest.
- Comfort with the ambiguity of an early-stage company, where you write the playbook while you run it.
- Willingness to travel to customers and industry conferences.
Bonus points
- You have sold into field services, home services, or insurance distribution.
- You have led sales for a training, enablement, or HR technology product.
- You have built a team from zero to its first five to ten sellers.
- You started your career in door-to-door or in-home sales.
Your first 90 days
What good looks like by the end of your first quarter:
- A written sales process, with stage definitions the whole company uses.
- A weekly forecast cadence with the CEO that holds up against what actually closes.
- A hiring plan, with your first account executive offers made.
- Your own first deals closed.
Where you will work
We prefer candidates in the Kansas City metro, where most of the team works together. Remote is available for the right candidate elsewhere in the United States. This role travels for customer meetings and industry conferences.
